Pressure Regulator Replacement in San Antonio, TX

When a pressure regulator wears out, your plumbing gets slammed or starved. We test the pressure, confirm the cause, and install a new regulator set to a safe, steady level.

Why this happens

The pressure in the street main is set to move water across a whole city, not to be gentle on your faucets. Taming it is the job of the regulator, a bell-shaped valve near your main shutoff. Its spring and diaphragm wear with age. If it sticks open, pressure climbs, and you hear pipes knock, toilets refill on their own and the water heater relief valve starts dribbling. If it sticks closed, every shower in the house feels weak.

What our crew checks

  1. Resting pressure

Gauge on a hose bib with all water off.

  2. Working pressure

How it holds with several fixtures open.

  3. Current valve

How old the valve is and whether it can still be adjusted.

  4. Thermal expansion

Expansion tank checked for presence and charge.

  5. Main shutoff

Tested so we can isolate the regulator.

Ways we can fix it

Option 1

Swap the regulator

Worn valve replaced and adjusted.

Option 2

Regulator plus tank

Adds an expansion tank for a closed system.

Option 3

Add a regulator

High street pressure and no regulator in place.

While you wait for us

Quick tip from the crewIf you have a pressure gauge, screw it on a hose bib and share the reading. Make a list of symptoms like knocking pipes, a dripping relief valve or weak showers. Most regulators sit near the front hose bib or main valve.

Out here on the west side

Pressure Regulator Replacement near Alamo Ranch and Westover Hills

Pressure on the far west side can swing quite a bit between subdivisions, depending on elevation and which SAWS pressure zone feeds you. Many homes in Alamo Ranch and Westover Hills have a regulator near the front hose bib or main shutoff, and a lot of those original valves are now 15 to 20 years old. We measure, set your pressure and check the expansion tank.

Pressure Regulator Replacement FAQ

What is a good house pressure?

A moderate reading works for most homes. We measure yours and adjust the regulator to a safe number.

What are signs of a bad regulator?

Knocking pipes, a weeping relief valve, toilets refilling by themselves, or pressure that changes without reason.

Do regulators and expansion tanks go together?

Usually. The regulator traps water in the house, and heated water has to expand somewhere.
